| Appointment
of New Board Members The chairperson of the Board of the Ombudsman for Banking Services (OBS), Advocate John Myburgh SC, has announced the appointment of two highly-talented and prominent newcomers to the Board. They are Mr Tefo Raditapole and Mr Alfred Ramosedi. Advocate Myburgh welcomed both members to the Board and said that they each brought with them valuable experience and knowledge. Mr Tefo Raditapole obtained an LLB degree from the University of the Witwatersrand and has been a partner at Cheadle, Thompson & Haysom attorneys since 1996, having joined the firm in 1990. He specialises in human rights, labour law and mediation. Mr Raditapole is Special Advisor to the Premier of Gauteng Province and he serves as a commissioner on the Commission for Employment Equity and served part-time on the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA). He has been involved with international organisations such as the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (IIDEA) in Stockholm and the International Labour Organisation (ILO). Mr Raditapole’s experience in mediation locally and abroad will be invaluable to the organisation. He represents civil society on the board. Mr Alfred Ramosedi was educated at Rearabetswe Senior Secondary School in Odendaalsrus in the Free State Province and obtained a Bachelor of Commerce degree and Master in Business Administration at the University of the Witwatersrand. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (FCMA) and is currently the Chairman of the Southern Africa Regional Board and sits on the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) Board of Professional Accountants based in New York. He worked for Anglo-American for three years as a management accountant. He is currently a divisional director for Nedbank Limited responsible for strategy and implementation for the middle market segment. Mr Ramosedi’s accounting background will be an asset to the OBS which, given its role in the banking industry, must display the highest level of financial propriety and corporate governance. Mr Ramosedi will be one of the three representatives of the banking industry on the eight-member board. |
