Appointment of new
Ombudsman for Banking Services The chairperson of the Ombudsman for Banking Services (OBS), Advocate John Myburgh S.C., today announced the appointment of the successor of outgoing Ombudsman Advocate Neville Melville. Advocate Clive Pillay will
be taking over as Ombudsman on 1 May, 2007. Advocate Pillay previously practised as a senior partner in the firm Pillay, Mayer, Boqwana Attorneys until 2004. During that time he acted on various occasions as a judge in the Eastern Cape High Court. He left practice to become Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions for the National Prosecuting Authority of South Africa in Johannesburg and was enrolled as an advocate of the High Court of South Africa Advocate Pillay is a member of Lawyers for Human Rights and the National Association of Democratic Lawyers. Contacted for comment, Advocate Pillay said: “I intend to continue with and build on the good work done by my predecessor.” |
