Matters falling within the jurisdiction of another Ombudsman

All OBS staff members are experienced in discerning whether a complaint falls within the jurisdiction of this, or another Ombudsman’s office. They are also equipped to assist you to contact such other Ombudsman or other agencies, regulatory bodies, Government departments or institutions.

Contact with our office may be established in any of the following ways, where such assistance will be provided:

  • You may call the OBS Call Centre on our ShareCall number 0860-800-900. Should your complaint fall within the jurisdiction of another Ombudsman, the call centre agent will advise you and may also transfer your call to the relevant Ombudsman’s office for you.
  • You may submit a complaint via our webpage www.obssa.co.za. Should it be established that your complaint falls within the jurisdiction of another Ombudsman’s office, or any other body, you will be informed in writing and correct contact details will be provided.
  • You may send an enquiry or complaint to our e-mail address info@obssa.co.za. Should it be established that your complaint falls within the jurisdiction of another Ombudsman’s office, or that of another body, you will be informed in writing and correct contact details will be provided.
  • You may send an enquiry to our WhatsApp number on +27 66 473 0157. A staff member will be in contact to assist with lodging a complaint with our office or will direct you to the correct Ombudsman or office for further assistance.
  • You may visit our physical office at 110 Oxford Road, Rosebank, Johannesburg. Should it be established that your complaint falls within the jurisdiction of another Ombudsman or office, you will be informed and the contact details provided to you by the staff member attending to you.

If at any stage of a complaint it is established that your complaint should more appropriately be dealt with by another Ombudsman office, the OBS staff will inform you in writing. Our correspondence will include the name, contact details and where possible, a link to the webpage of the relevant Ombudsman’s office.
